Inouye backs Lamont -- tell him thanks!

Fantastic news -- according to DailyKos, Senator Daniel Inouye has announced his support for Ned Lamont, the only Democrat running for the Senate in Connecticut. As noted here a few weeks ago, Senator Inouye had said that he would support Senator Joe Lieberman in an independent bid for the Senate even if Lieberman lost the Democratic primary to Lamont. Many thanks to any readers who wrote to Senator Inouye encouraging him to reconsider. Here's a choice excerpt from the Honolulu Advertiser blog posting on the subject:
Inouye initially said that he'd support Lieberman as an independent because he was concerned about the single-issue focus on the war in Iraq that turned primary voters against Lieberman, who is strongly aligned with President Bush on the war.
But Hawai'i's senior senator said he was disappointed when Lieberman made a speech "very critical of the Democratic Party."
"I told some of my friends after he gave his speech saying the party isn't the party he knew that he doesn't get my support," Inouye said in an interview.
