Democrat Phillip Shinoda gets endorsement from "Dallas Morning News"

This is fairly huge news. Phillip Shinoda, an Asian American Democrat running for the Texas State House of Representatives against a Republican incumbent, has received the endorsement of the generally conservative "Dallas Morning News." Here's an excerpt:

This race is a tough call. We respect GOP Rep. Will Hartnett's smarts and good intentions and have recommended him for election in the past. But over the years, we've worried that his rather insular view of the world has led him to oppose many ideas of merit.

Democrat Phillip Shinoda also strikes us as smart and well intentioned. He has broader perspective on issues ranging from public school finance and health care for the working poor to air quality and recorded votes. And so this year, in this matchup, we recommend Mr. Shinoda.
