Here's some awesome news -- a group of Asian American volunteers from California are heading to Nevada to help register AAPI voters. Obama and McCain were neck and neck in a recent (pre-convention) Nevada poll. And the state is now 8.2 percent Asian American. A prime opportunity to prove that Asians vote -- and that Asians' votes matter!

WHY: Nevada is a key battleground state in the presidential contest between Barack Obama and John McCain and AAPIs are determined to play a visible role in its outcome.
Asian Americans represent nearly 8 percent of the population of Clark County, which includes Las Vegas. The 41 percent growth rate of the Asian American population in the a county between 2000 and 2004 was the highest for any racial group. Although Pacific Islanders account for only one percent of the county's population, they had a growth rate of 37 percent between 2000 and 2004.
Members of this group, part of a growing network of grassroots activists, are reuniting in Nevada where they volunteered in February for Senator Obama in the state's Democratic caucus. Thanks to the success and excitement generated, they decided then to organize an even bigger presence for the general. While the group was at the DNC Convention in Denver, they organized the caravan and plan to return to NV every weekend until the Nov. 4th election.
